Dr. Anwar, the founder of TEDxKhartoum in Sudan, Africa. He translated a huge number of TED talks into Arabic. got a standing ovation at TED Global 2011. He has transformed the lives of 1000+ individuals and allowed them to believe in themselves and see the beauty of Sudan and have hope that one day OUR SUDAN will be a place we call home.
To help the people of Sudan even better, a couple of months ago Dr. Anwar came to the United States and just yesterday and since he came to the U.S he has been in many meetings to raise awareness and concern (Eg. education, humanitarian issues, the effect of US sanctions on citizens of Sudan...) - with State Department, New America Foundation, Think-tanks, various news organizations - and gave a talk at TEDxMidAtlantic about the challenges we have in Sudan. He also applied for political asylum in the US . Yesterday 01/07, he found out that his application was approved, and can stay in the United States :) In his own words " I have many mixed feelings: strong and weak at the same time. Happy and sad. I guess you could say it is bittersweet. Can you imagine if you love your country and your people so much, but you are basically forced to leave and try to adjust to a life away from everything you know and feel passionate about?" With all that he is going through he is still thinking of OUR SUDAN and how he can help better our futures.
During the past few months, he wasn't able to work due to the US immigration laws while he was waiting for an answer on his Asylum. Now he can work but as we know the economy it's not as simple as 123 to find a job, he needs to find the right job so he can continue to help the people of Sudan and the situation in Sudan, for the future generations. Meanwhile, his savings are gone. as he said " It is like I just got the green light to cross the bridge, but I ran out of gas. Knowing all the possibilities lie on the other side. I just need help getting there."
Just like he was there for us emotionally, mentally or financially he needs our support financially to help him cross the bridge. PLEASE If you are able and want to help me, I'm sure he will be very grateful. Because SUDAN has US sanctions it's even harder for him to get around in a new country. PLEASE Donate whatever you are able to.
